The fall '08 report "Gartner 2008 North American Enterprise CPR Generation Evaluation: Nearly Half the Products Evaluated Have Finally Reached Generation 3," by Thomas J. Handler, MD, evaluated the functionality of CPR systems and assigned rankings on a scale of 1 to 5.

Choosing a system with this level of capability is critical to a healthcare enterprise because, from a functional perspective, the presence of a Generation 3 CPR system revolutionizes the support available for a variety of important clinical activities. This, in turn, can have a dramatic impact on a CDO's ability to detect, prevent and manage medical errors; improve medical decision making; increase the efficiency of its process operations; improve the accuracy and completeness of clinical documentation; and affect outcomes.
While the report is geared toward North American markets, it also points out that because many of these products are marketed outside North America, international audiences should find it of value. Gartner is the world's leading information technology research and advisory company.
